Cyan Beach is home to several Pokémon worth hunting, including Squirtle, Totodile, and other Pokémon that can remain useful throughout your Pokémon Sleep journey.
Although Cyan Beach is relatively easy to clear, some of the Pokémon you can find here are valuable for other research areas and EX mode as well.
That’s why I prefer focusing on Pokémon that will remain useful in the long term rather than raising Pokémon exclusively for Cyan Beach.
In this guide, I’ll divide the Pokémon worth hunting into three categories:
- High-priority Pokémon to hunt
- Pokémon worth hunting when possible
- Pokémon worth hunting depending on your team and preferences
I’ll also explain why I recommend each Pokémon and how I decide where to spend my biscuits.
Note: This guide covers the regular Cyan Beach research area. Cyan Beach EX will be covered separately.
Best Pokémon to Hunt at Cyan Beach
Here are my recommended Pokémon, divided into three priority levels.
| Priority | Pokémon |
|---|---|
| High Priority | Squirtle, Totodile, Piplup, Tinkatink, Fuecoco |
| Worth Hunting | Treecko, Bellsprout, Wooper, Farfetch’d, Mime Jr., Shuckle, Cramorant, Croagunk |
| Depending on Your Team and Preferences | Igglybuff, Caterpie, Pinsir, Cutiefly |
My top recommendation is Squirtle.
Blastoise is an excellent Ingredients specialist that can provide Moomoo Milk for a wide variety of recipes. If you don’t already have a reliable milk farmer, Squirtle should be one of your highest priorities.
Totodile, Piplup, and Tinkatink are also valuable because their final evolutions provide Berries specialists for different types.
However, these rankings aren’t based solely on maximum performance.
I also consider how difficult each Pokémon is to catch, how expensive it is to raise, and whether other Pokémon can fulfill the same role.
How I Decide Which Pokémon to Hunt at Cyan Beach
Cyan Beach is one of the earlier research areas in Pokémon Sleep, and it is relatively easy to build a team that can perform well here.
Snorlax’s favorite berries are always the following three types:
| Berry | Pokémon Type |
|---|---|
| Oran Berry | Water |
| Pecha Berry | Fairy |
| Pamtre Berry | Flying |
Using Pokémon that collect these berries can make it easier to earn Strength.
However, I don’t think you need to raise several Pokémon exclusively for clearing Cyan Beach.
For example, Feraligatr performs well here because it is a Water-type Berries specialist. It may also become valuable in Cyan Beach EX or other EX research areas where Water-type Pokémon are especially useful.
Empoleon and Tinkaton are also worth hunting because they can help cover Steel-type and Fairy-type berry production, respectively.
Personally, I would like to have at least one strong Berries specialist for every Pokémon type.
The same principle applies to Ingredients specialists.
Rather than focusing only on what helps at Cyan Beach, I recommend investing in Pokémon that collect ingredients you regularly need for cooking.
High-Priority Pokémon to Hunt
These are the five Pokémon lines I would prioritize when spending biscuits at Cyan Beach.
Squirtle | My Top Recommendation for Moomoo Milk
Squirtle is the Pokémon I would prioritize most at Cyan Beach.
Its final evolution, Blastoise, is an excellent Ingredients specialist, and I particularly recommend an AAA ingredient spread focused entirely on Moomoo Milk.
Moomoo Milk is used in many different recipes, so having one Pokémon that can supply large quantities makes cooking much easier.
Changes to Pokémon appearances across research areas may also make Squirtle Candy harder to accumulate for some players than it used to be.
For newer players, I think securing and raising a strong Squirtle is well worth prioritizing.
I Recommend an AAA Milk-Focused Build
If I were hunting Squirtle today, my main target would be an AAA ingredient spread.
Having a Blastoise that consistently gathers Moomoo Milk is useful because milk is needed for so many dishes.
However, that doesn’t mean every other ingredient spread is unusable.
An AAX build can still be a practical temporary option if it collects enough milk at Lv. 30.
You could raise such a Pokémon to Lv. 30 or Lv. 50, use it as your milk supplier, and eventually replace it with a stronger AAA Blastoise.
Of course, I would still consider its nature and sub skills. An ideal ingredient spread doesn’t automatically make a Pokémon worth raising if its overall performance is too poor.
But if you don’t have a reliable milk farmer yet, I would prioritize securing a usable Blastoise instead of waiting indefinitely for a perfect one.

Totodile | A Valuable Water-Type Berries Specialist
Totodile evolves into Feraligatr, a Water-type Berries specialist.
Since Oran Berry is one of Snorlax’s favorite berries at Cyan Beach, Feraligatr is naturally useful for clearing this research area.
However, its value extends beyond Cyan Beach.
I expect strong Water-type Berries specialists to remain useful in Cyan Beach EX and other situations where Water-type Pokémon receive favorable bonuses.
EX mode makes type coverage more important because the types you want on your team can change depending on the available bonuses.
For this reason, I consider Feraligatr a good long-term investment.
Prioritize Berry Finding S
When hunting Totodile, Berry Finding S is the sub skill I would prioritize most.
Helping Bonus and Helping Speed sub skills are also excellent additions.
Naturally, finding a Pokémon with all of these qualities can take time.
However, because I expect Feraligatr to remain useful in the future, I think it’s worth being somewhat selective.
If you already have an excellent Feraligatr, there is no need to force yourself to raise another one.
But if you don’t have a strong Water-type Berries specialist yet, Totodile is definitely worth your biscuits.
Piplup | An Accessible Steel-Type Berries Specialist
Piplup is another Pokémon I strongly recommend hunting at Cyan Beach.
Piplup and Prinplup are Water-type Pokémon, but their final evolution, Empoleon, becomes a Steel-type Berries specialist.
This makes Empoleon useful for research areas and EX mode situations where Steel-type Pokémon are valuable.
Steelix is another powerful Steel-type Berries specialist, but hunting Steelix comes with a major disadvantage.
Its pre-evolution, Onix, requires 16 friendship points to befriend.
And because Berry Finding S is extremely valuable for Berries specialists, finding a truly strong Onix can be an expensive process.
Piplup, on the other hand, requires only 5 friendship points.
That makes it much easier to catch multiple Piplup and search for a strong individual.
Easier to Hunt Than Steelix
Steelix is an excellent Berries specialist, and I wouldn’t underestimate its performance.
However, the amount of biscuits required to hunt Onix makes it difficult to recommend to everyone.
Piplup is a more accessible alternative.
If you’re starting from scratch and want a Steel-type Berries specialist, I would generally recommend hunting Piplup.
As with other Berries specialists, Berry Finding S is my highest priority.
Helping Bonus and Helping Speed are also valuable.
If you already have an excellent Steelix, you can give Piplup a lower priority. Otherwise, Empoleon is a strong addition to your long-term team.
Tinkatink | A Great Fairy-Type Berries Specialist to Hunt
Tinkatink evolves into Tinkaton, a Fairy-type Berries specialist.
Clefable is another Fairy-type Berries specialist, but hunting its pre-evolution, Cleffa, is difficult because opportunities to encounter it are limited, with Good Sleep Day being a particularly important occasion.
Tinkatink is much more convenient to hunt.
It can appear during Snoozing-type sleep research at the regular Cyan Beach, giving you opportunities to find strong individuals without relying on a special monthly event.
For that reason, I rate Tinkatink very highly.
More Accessible Than Clefable
Clefable is a good Berries specialist, but limited hunting opportunities make it difficult to find an ideal individual.
Tinkatink can be hunted more consistently at Cyan Beach.
Since I want strong Berries specialists for as many types as possible, I consider Tinkatink an important Pokémon to secure.
Tinkaton also has enough potential to remain useful when Fairy-type berries are particularly valuable.
When hunting Tinkatink, I would prioritize Berry Finding S, followed by Helping Bonus and Helping Speed sub skills.
If you already have an excellent Clefable, hunting Tinkatink is less urgent.
But if your team lacks a strong Fairy-type Berries specialist, I highly recommend it.
Fuecoco | An Excellent Apple Farmer
Fuecoco is a valuable Ingredients specialist because its final evolution, Skeledirge, can collect Fancy Apples.
Apples are used in many recipes, particularly as you progress further into the game.
There aren’t many Ingredients specialists that can serve as dedicated apple farmers, making Skeledirge especially attractive.
If you don’t already have a strong Pokémon that collects apples, I recommend hunting an AAA Fuecoco.
An AAA Apple-Focused Build Is My Preference
If I were choosing a Fuecoco to raise, I would prioritize an AAA ingredient spread focused on Fancy Apples.
Some recipes require large quantities of apples, and having a dedicated supplier makes those dishes much easier to prepare.
Of course, how valuable apples are depends on your progress and the recipes you regularly cook.
If you already have enough apples, you can give Fuecoco a lower priority.
However, if you’re frequently unable to make the dishes you want because of an apple shortage, Fuecoco is an excellent Pokémon to hunt.
After confirming the ingredient spread, I would look for Ingredient Finder M and Helping Speed sub skills.
Pokémon Worth Hunting When Possible
The following eight Pokémon are worth considering if you encounter them.
Some can become extremely useful with a strong build, but I don’t think they need to take priority over the five Pokémon discussed above.
Their value depends on your current team, the cost of catching them, and the availability of alternatives.
Treecko | Powerful Berry Burst, but Difficult to Build
Treecko evolves into Sceptile, a powerful Pokémon with the Berry Burst main skill.
Although Sceptile is a Skills specialist, it can generate substantial Strength through berries, especially in research areas where Grass-type Pokémon are favored.
However, I don’t think you need to rush its selection process.
I Want Both Berry Finding S and Skill Trigger
Sceptile is unusual because I value Berry Finding S highly even though it is a Skills specialist.
Its main skill benefits from strong berry performance, while Skill Trigger sub skills help it activate Berry Burst more frequently.
Ideally, I would like a Sceptile with both Berry Finding S and strong skill trigger performance.
Naturally, finding such a Pokémon isn’t easy.
Sceptile also tends to be most valuable when Grass-type Pokémon receive favorable bonuses rather than being an automatic choice for every team.
I would actively spend biscuits on Treecko when I see one, but I would be selective about which individual I actually raise.
Bellsprout | A Strong AAA Tomato Farmer
Bellsprout is a good option if you need a Pokémon that collects Snoozy Tomatoes.
Its final evolution, Victreebel, has strong ingredient-gathering performance, and I personally find it very convenient to use.
An AAA build focused on tomatoes can remain useful for many recipes.
However, Victreebel isn’t your only option.
Abomasnow and Luxray can also provide tomatoes, although they come with their own hunting and training challenges.
Victreebel also requires a Leaf Stone to evolve, which adds to its resource cost.
Lower Priority for Potato-Focused Builds
Bellsprout can also be raised for Soft Potatoes.
However, there are now several excellent potato farmers, including Meowscarada and Cetitan.
Because of that, I would generally prioritize an AAA tomato-focused Bellsprout over an ABB potato-focused build.
If you already have an excellent tomato farmer, there’s no need to rush.
But if tomatoes are one of the ingredients your team struggles to gather, Bellsprout is still a very good option.
Wooper | A Reliable Mushroom Farmer
Wooper is a good Pokémon to hunt if you need a dedicated Tasty Mushroom supplier.
Its final evolution, Quagsire, has solid ingredient-gathering performance, and I recommend an AAA mushroom-focused build.
Amoonguss is another Pokémon capable of collecting Tasty Mushrooms.
However, I don’t think the difference in mushroom production between Quagsire and Amoonguss is large enough to automatically make one the better choice for everyone.
I would also consider how easy they are to raise.
Candy Availability Is an Advantage for Quagsire
Both regular Wooper and Paldean Wooper are available in Pokémon Sleep, giving players more opportunities to accumulate Wooper Candy.
Amoonguss, on the other hand, was introduced more recently, so some players may still have limited amounts of its Candy.
If two Pokémon offer similar ingredient production, I think choosing the one that’s easier to raise is perfectly reasonable.
That makes Quagsire an attractive mushroom farmer.
If you already have an excellent mushroom supplier, there’s no need to hunt another one urgently.
Otherwise, Wooper is definitely worth considering.
Read my Amoonguss Guide and Comparison With Quagsire
Farfetch’d | A Rare First-Slot Leek Farmer
Farfetch’d is valuable because it can collect Large Leeks from its first ingredient slot.
That makes it an interesting choice for players who want a dedicated leek farmer.
However, I don’t currently consider Farfetch’d an urgent hunting priority.
The main reason is that I don’t find myself needing large quantities of leeks as often as other ingredients.
Some leek-based recipes are powerful, but there are also other high-Strength dishes that I would rather prepare.
As a result, securing a dedicated leek farmer isn’t my highest priority at the moment.
Its 16-Point Friendship Requirement Is a Major Drawback
Farfetch’d requires 16 friendship points to befriend.
That makes hunting multiple individuals expensive.
Since leeks are also difficult to collect in large quantities, I would want a strong ingredient spread and good ingredient-gathering sub skills before making a major investment.
However, the ability to collect Large Leeks from the first ingredient slot remains valuable.
I think Farfetch’d is worth spending biscuits on when you encounter one.
If it has the hungry bonus, I would be especially interested in trying to catch it.
Mime Jr. | Good Ingredients and an Attractive Main Skill
Mime Jr. is an interesting Pokémon because of its ingredient production and useful main skill.
As a tomato farmer, its final evolution, Mr. Mime, competes with Victreebel.
However, if I were deciding which one to start raising today, I would personally lean toward Mime Jr.
One reason is its evolution cost.
Victreebel requires a Leaf Stone, while Mime Jr. can evolve into Mr. Mime without needing an evolution stone.
I also value the additional utility of its main skill, which gives it another way to contribute beyond ingredient gathering.
Candy Availability Makes Hunting More Important
The main drawback is that Mime Jr. Candy can be difficult to accumulate.
If you’re planning to raise one to Lv. 60, I would be cautious about investing heavily in a mediocre individual.
However, if you urgently need a tomato farmer, raising a usable Mime Jr. temporarily can still make sense.
You could then invest more seriously when you find an individual that you expect to keep for the long term.
Both Bellsprout and Mime Jr. are worthwhile choices.
I would decide between them based on your current team, available Candy, and how much you value their secondary benefits.
Shuckle | Berry Juice Gives It a Unique Role
Shuckle is a Skills specialist with a unique main skill called Berry Juice (Energy for Everyone S).
This skill restores Energy to your entire team and can occasionally give you an additional Berry Juice item.
A Berry Juice restores 20 Energy to one helper Pokémon, and you can store up to five.
I think this makes Shuckle particularly interesting, even if you already have another healer.
Stock Up on Berry Juice Before Important Events
One possible strategy is to put Shuckle on your team during the week before an important event.
During that time, you can collect Berry Juice until you reach the storage limit of five.
When the event begins, you can use the stored drinks to restore Energy to individual Pokémon whenever needed.
This gives you additional flexibility during periods when keeping your strongest team members active is particularly important.
Another advantage is that the chance of receiving Berry Juice does not increase with main skill level.
That means you don’t necessarily need to spend Main Skill Seeds on Shuckle just to use it for Berry Juice collection.
You can simply put it on your team during a quieter week and prepare for a future event.
A Strong Shuckle Can Also Serve as Your Main Healer
If you catch a Shuckle with Skill Trigger M and other strong supporting sub skills, it may also be worth raising as your main healer.
It can restore team Energy while occasionally providing Berry Juice for later use.
This gives Shuckle a different kind of utility compared with conventional healers.
However, Shuckle requires 16 friendship points, making it expensive to hunt repeatedly.
If your main goal is simply collecting Berry Juice, I wouldn’t insist on an ideal build.
A strong Shuckle can become a dedicated healer, while an ordinary one can still serve as a Berry Juice supplier.
Cramorant | Ingredients and Tasty Chance S in One Pokémon
Cramorant is an attractive Ingredients specialist because it combines ingredient gathering with the Tasty Chance S main skill.
Depending on its ingredient spread, it can be used for Pure Oil or Soft Potatoes.
Its main skill also increases the chance of an Extra Tasty meal, giving it additional utility beyond ingredient production.
A strong Cramorant can therefore contribute in two different ways.
Powerful, but Expensive to Hunt
The main drawback is its 16-point friendship requirement.
Catching multiple Cramorant to find an ideal individual requires a considerable biscuit investment.
There are also other oil farmers, such as Croagunk and Luxray, so Cramorant isn’t your only option.
However, Cramorant’s combination of ingredient collection and Tasty Chance S is valuable.
If you encounter a hungry Cramorant, I think it’s definitely worth considering.
Finding an excellent Cramorant can provide a substantial long-term return, even if actively hunting one is expensive.
Croagunk | A Practical Temporary Oil Farmer
Croagunk is an Ingredients specialist that can collect Pure Oil.
There are several other oil farmers, including Ditto, Mawile, and Cramorant, but many require 16 friendship points.
Luxray is another strong option, although Shinx is mainly hunted in research areas such as Old Gold Power Plant.
Croagunk, by comparison, requires only 5 friendship points.
That makes it much easier to hunt for players who need an oil farmer early on.
AAA Is Ideal, but AAX Can Work as a Temporary Option
If I were hunting Croagunk, an AAA ingredient spread focused on Pure Oil would be my ideal target.
However, Toxicroak isn’t one of the strongest ingredient farmers available, so I wouldn’t insist on finding a perfect individual before using one.
For example, an AAX Croagunk that collects oil through Lv. 30 and has Ingredient Finder M can be a reasonable temporary choice.
You could raise it to Lv. 30 or Lv. 50 and use it until you find a stronger dedicated oil farmer.
Of course, if you happen to catch an excellent AAA Croagunk right away, there’s nothing wrong with raising it for long-term use.
Croagunk is valuable because it provides an accessible way to secure Pure Oil.
I wouldn’t spend unlimited biscuits chasing a perfect Toxicroak, but I do think having a practical oil supplier is worthwhile.
Pokémon Worth Hunting Depending on Your Team and Preferences
The following four Pokémon can still be useful, but I would generally give other Pokémon higher priority.
This doesn’t mean they are bad.
If you already have a strong individual or particularly like one of these Pokémon, raising it can still be a perfectly reasonable decision.
Igglybuff | A Usable Healer, but Turtwig Is Also Worth Considering
Igglybuff is a Skills specialist with Energy for Everyone S, allowing it to restore Energy to your entire team.
Its final evolution, Wigglytuff, can perform well as a healer.
However, there are now alternatives such as Gardevoir and Torterra that can offer more main skill activations.
Torterra is particularly interesting because you can raise it from Turtwig, which appears at Taupe Hollow.
Unlike Wigglytuff, which requires a Moon Stone to evolve, Torterra doesn’t require a special evolution item.
It can also collect useful ingredients such as Tasty Mushrooms and Soft Potatoes.
That gives Torterra an additional role beyond healing.
For these reasons, if I were starting a new healer hunt today, I would generally prioritize Turtwig over Igglybuff.
However, Wigglytuff is certainly not a bad Pokémon.
If you don’t have a healer yet, catching an Igglybuff can still be worthwhile.
And if you’ve already raised an excellent Wigglytuff, there’s no need to replace it immediately.
Caterpie | An Option If You Need Bug-Type Coverage
Caterpie evolves into Butterfree, a Bug-type Berries specialist.
Bug-type Pokémon can become useful in areas such as Amber Canyon, so having a strong Bug-type option isn’t a bad idea.
However, Butterfree’s overall berry performance isn’t particularly exceptional compared with some of the stronger Berries specialists.
If I encountered Caterpie alongside Totodile or Treecko, for example, I would generally spend my biscuits on the latter Pokémon first.
On the other hand, if there aren’t any higher-priority Pokémon available, Caterpie can be a reasonable choice.
If you happen to catch one with Berry Finding S and Helping Bonus, it could certainly become a useful team member.
Pinsir | Useful for Honey and Apples, but Faces Strong Competition
Pinsir is an Ingredients specialist that can collect Honey and Fancy Apples.
Its ingredient performance isn’t necessarily poor, but there are strong alternatives for both ingredients.
Venusaur is an excellent Honey farmer, while Skeledirge is a strong choice for Fancy Apples.
Because of that, I don’t think Pinsir needs to be a major hunting priority.
Its 16-point friendship requirement also makes repeated hunting expensive.
However, if you happen to catch a Pinsir with an excellent ingredient spread and strong sub skills, raising it is perfectly reasonable.
And if Pinsir is one of your favorite Pokémon, there’s nothing wrong with choosing it over a more conventional option.
Cutiefly | A Honey Farmer Worth Considering
Cutiefly can be considered as a Pokémon for collecting Honey.
However, it competes with Venusaur, which is already an excellent Honey farmer.
If you have a strong Venusaur that consistently supplies enough Honey, I don’t think there’s much reason to actively hunt Cutiefly.
On the other hand, if you need another Honey supplier or happen to catch a particularly strong Cutiefly, raising it may be worthwhile.
Its main skill can also give it a different role from Venusaur, so there’s more to consider than Honey production alone.
Still, Cyan Beach has several Pokémon I would prioritize first.
That’s why I place Cutiefly in the category of Pokémon worth hunting depending on your team and personal preferences.
Final Thoughts: Prioritize Pokémon That Will Remain Useful
Cyan Beach is a relatively accessible research area, but many of its Pokémon can remain valuable far beyond the early stages of Pokémon Sleep.
My five highest-priority choices are Squirtle, Totodile, Piplup, Tinkatink, and Fuecoco.
Among them, Squirtle is my top recommendation because a reliable Blastoise can provide Moomoo Milk for a wide variety of recipes.
However, if you already have the ingredient farmers you need, you may prefer focusing on Berries specialists for different Pokémon types or unusual support Pokémon such as Shuckle.
Pokémon in the lower-priority categories aren’t necessarily weak, either.
A strong individual may be worth raising, especially if you like the Pokémon or it fills a gap in your team.
Rather than trying to hunt every Pokémon at Cyan Beach, I recommend identifying which roles your current team is missing and spending your biscuits accordingly.
Thinking about future research areas and EX mode can also help you choose Pokémon that will remain useful for a long time.
