Pokémon Sleep: 9 Best Pokémon to Hunt at Amber Canyon

Amber Canyon is home to several excellent Pokémon, including Bagon, Trapinch, and Dwebble. Salamence is one of the strongest Berries specialists in Pokémon Sleep, while Flygon is a valuable option for gathering Glossy Avocados.

However, by the time you unlock Amber Canyon, you may already have a well-developed team. Rather than evaluating Pokémon purely by their individual performance, it’s important to consider whether they fill a role your team actually needs.

In this guide, I’ll introduce nine Pokémon worth hunting at Amber Canyon, based on my own experience raising and using them.

Best Pokémon to Hunt at Amber Canyon

Here are my recommended priorities for Pokémon available at Amber Canyon.

PriorityPokémonWhy I Recommend It
High PriorityBagonSalamence is one of the strongest Berries specialists
TrapinchFlygon is an excellent Glossy Avocado farmer
Worth HuntingHappinyAn accessible Fancy Egg farmer requiring only 5 friendship points
NatuXatu is an excellent Psychic-type Berries specialist
LarvitarTyranitar is a powerful Ginger and Soybean farmer
TyruntTyrantrum is a strong Rock-type Berries specialist that’s relatively easy to hunt
Depends on Your TeamDwebbleCrustle works particularly well with Overgrow Avocado Gratin
ChimcharInfernape has a powerful Berry Burst skill but requires investment
FoongusAmoonguss is an excellent option if you need a Tasty Mushroom farmer

Bagon and Trapinch are my top recommendations, but I would approach their training differently.

For Salamence, I prefer to hunt for an exceptional individual before investing heavily. For Flygon, however, raising a reasonably good Pokémon early can be worthwhile if your team lacks a reliable Avocado supplier.

The remaining Pokémon should be evaluated according to your current team and the resources you’re willing to invest.

High-Priority Pokémon to Hunt

Bagon | Salamence Is One of the Strongest Berries Specialists

Salamence, the final evolution of Bagon, is one of the strongest Berries specialists currently available in Pokémon Sleep.

It collects Yache Berries, which are among Snorlax’s favorite Berries at Amber Canyon. However, Salamence’s base performance is strong enough to generate substantial Strength even in research areas where Yache Berries aren’t favored.

This makes Salamence valuable not only for Amber Canyon but also as a long-term addition to your team.

I Recommend Hunting for a Strong Individual

Berry Finding S is my highest priority when evaluating Bagon. I would also look for Helping Bonus, Helping Speed bonuses, or other traits that improve Berry production.

Personally, I continued hunting until I found a Bagon with an almost ideal build, apart from its nature.

The main reason is Salamence’s substantial training cost.

The Bagon evolutionary line requires a large amount of experience, and reaching Salamence takes considerable time and resources. Berries specialists also continue getting stronger as they level up because the Strength gained from each Berry increases.

For that reason, I want to keep raising the same Salamence for as long as possible rather than replacing it after investing heavily.

Of course, raising a less-than-perfect Bagon can make sense if you urgently need help progressing through Amber Canyon.

However, if you already have strong Berries specialists, I recommend being selective and looking for Berry Finding S plus at least one additional advantage.

Cooking Power-Up S Is Another Useful Advantage

Salamence’s main skill is Cooking Power-Up S.

Since Salamence is a Berries specialist, I wouldn’t rely on frequent skill activations. Nevertheless, having a powerful Strength producer that can occasionally increase your cooking pot’s capacity is useful.

An activation may provide enough additional capacity to prepare a high-level recipe that would otherwise be unavailable.

However, I would still prioritize Berry Finding S and Helping Speed over Skill Trigger bonuses when evaluating Bagon.

Soft Potatoes and Warming Ginger Are Useful Bonuses

Salamence also has an appealing ingredient selection for a Berries specialist.

Soft Potatoes are particularly useful. Although Pokémon such as Meowscarada and Cetitan can gather them efficiently, producing large quantities can still be challenging.

Having Salamence collect additional Potatoes while generating Berry Strength may reduce how long you need to use a dedicated Potato farmer.

Warming Ginger is another useful ingredient, particularly for advanced recipes such as Bounce Curry Udon.

Personally, I would appreciate an AAA or ABB ingredient spread. However, Salamence’s primary responsibility is Berry production, so I wouldn’t reject an excellent Bagon simply because its ingredients aren’t ideal.

Trapinch | I Recommend an AAA Flygon for Glossy Avocados

Flygon, the final evolution of Trapinch, is an Ingredients specialist that can gather Glossy Avocados from its first ingredient slot.

Glossy Avocados are used in powerful recipes such as Overgrow Avocado Gratin and Bulldoze Guacamole and Chips.

Crustle and some other Pokémon can also gather Avocados, but Flygon remains an excellent choice for dedicated, consistent Avocado production.

AAA Is My Preferred Ingredient Spread

If you’re hunting Trapinch, I recommend an AAA spread focused entirely on Glossy Avocados.

Ingredient SpreadMy Evaluation
AAAMy top recommendation for dedicated Avocado production
ABBUseful if you need a Fiery Herb farmer
AACProvides Avocados and Soybeans
Other spreadsDepends on your team and preferred recipes

ABB Flygon is also a strong option for gathering Fiery Herbs.

However, Dragonite is an exceptionally powerful competitor for that role. If you already have an AAA Dragonite, I don’t think there’s much reason to raise an ABB Flygon specifically for Herbs.

On the other hand, ABB can be worth considering if your team doesn’t have a reliable Fiery Herb supplier.

When evaluating Trapinch, I prioritize Ingredient Finder M and Helping Speed bonuses. Flygon’s base ingredient finding rate isn’t particularly high, so bonuses that improve ingredient production are valuable.

A Temporary AAX Flygon Can Be Worth Raising

Although AAA is my preferred long-term spread, I don’t think you necessarily need to wait for a perfect Trapinch before raising one.

I personally used an AAX Flygon until I eventually found an AAA individual.

My reasoning was that having no reliable Avocado supplier would prevent me from preparing certain high-Strength dishes.

Waiting indefinitely for an ideal Pokémon can create its own opportunity cost, especially for Ingredients specialists.

I felt the same way when raising Bewear as a Greengrass Corn supplier.

If your team currently struggles to gather Glossy Avocados, raising a reasonably strong AAX Trapinch may be more practical than waiting for a perfect AAA.

You can always consider replacing it later if you find a significantly stronger individual.

Pokémon Worth Hunting

Happiny | An Accessible and Reliable Fancy Egg Farmer

Blissey, the final evolution of Happiny, is an excellent Ingredients specialist for gathering Fancy Eggs.

Eggs are used in many recipes, so having a reliable supplier makes cooking-focused teams easier to manage.

I generally recommend an AAA ingredient spread for dedicated Egg production.

Delibird is another strong Egg farmer, but it requires 16 friendship points, while Happiny only requires five.

This makes Happiny considerably easier to hunt, especially if you’re starting without a strong Egg supplier.

Blissey also has Energy for Everyone S as its main skill. Since it’s an Ingredients specialist rather than a Skills specialist, I wouldn’t expect it to replace a dedicated healer, but occasional team healing is a welcome bonus.

When selecting Happiny, I prioritize Ingredient Finder M, Helping Speed bonuses, and potentially Inventory Up.

Its main responsibility should remain gathering Fancy Eggs consistently.

Natu | A Strong Psychic-Type Berries Specialist

Xatu is an excellent Psychic-type Berries specialist with a base helping time of 2,500 seconds.

Compared with Musharna, another Psychic-type Berries specialist, Xatu is better suited to generating Strength through regular Berry production.

Berry Finding S is my first priority when evaluating Natu, followed by Helping Bonus and Helping Speed bonuses.

Its Ingredient Magnet S main skill is convenient, but I wouldn’t prioritize Skill Trigger bonuses since Xatu’s main role is collecting Berries.

I already raise Musharna, but I’m still interested in finding a strong Xatu.

If you’re looking to raise your first Psychic-type Berries specialist, Xatu would generally be my recommendation.

However, Natu can also be hunted at Lapis Lakeside and other research areas. At Amber Canyon, I would consider whether you want to spend Biscuits on Natu or focus on more distinctive targets such as Bagon and Trapinch.

For more information, see my Xatu selection guide and comparison with Musharna.

Larvitar | Tyranitar Is Powerful but Expensive to Train

Tyranitar is a powerful Ingredients specialist that can gather Warming Ginger and Greengrass Soybeans.

It has excellent ingredient production and can maintain its own Energy through Charge Energy S, making it a reliable long-term supplier.

AAA and ABB Are Both Worth Considering

I consider both AAA for Warming Ginger and ABB for Greengrass Soybeans viable options.

Warming Ginger is used in high-level recipes such as Bounce Curry Udon, so AAA is a strong choice if you want consistent Ginger production.

ABB can also be useful if you already have a reliable Ginger farmer and need more Soybeans.

However, Tyranitar’s training cost deserves serious consideration.

The Larvitar evolutionary line requires substantial experience, and Pupitar doesn’t evolve into Tyranitar until Lv. 41.

Because replacing a trained Tyranitar can be expensive, I would look for Ingredient Finder M, Helping Speed bonuses, or other traits that remain useful over the long term.

If you urgently need a Ginger farmer, raising Charizard first may be a more practical option.

Tyranitar is certainly powerful enough to justify its training cost, but finding a good Larvitar doesn’t mean you need to start raising it immediately.

Tyrunt | An Accessible Rock-Type Berries Specialist

Tyrantrum, the evolution of Tyrunt, is a strong Rock-type Berries specialist.

It collects Sitrus Berries, which are among Snorlax’s favorites at Taupe Hollow, making it particularly useful for that research area.

Onix is another Rock-type Berries specialist, but it requires 16 friendship points. Tyrunt only requires five, making it considerably easier to hunt for a strong individual.

I prioritize Berry Finding S, followed by Helping Bonus and Helping Speed bonuses.

Tyrantrum also has Cooking Power-Up S, allowing it to occasionally increase your cooking pot’s capacity.

This is a useful secondary benefit, but since Tyrantrum is a Berries specialist, I wouldn’t build it primarily around skill activation.

If you need a Rock-type Berries specialist, Tyrunt is an attractive option because of its relatively low catching cost.

Pokémon That Depend on Your Team

Dwebble | Crustle Is Especially Useful for Avocado Gratin

Crustle, the evolution of Dwebble, is a Skills specialist with Ingredient Draw S.

Its main skill can provide large quantities of ingredients, making it particularly useful for preparing certain high-level recipes.

One of the best examples is Overgrow Avocado Gratin.

I’ve personally raised Crustle and used it alongside Pokémon such as Blastoise to prepare Avocado Gratin repeatedly throughout an entire week.

Under the right conditions, Crustle can gather so many Avocados that I don’t even need to include Flygon in the team.

Your Other Ingredient Farmers Matter

Despite Crustle’s impressive performance, I wouldn’t recommend it to every player.

The ingredients obtained through Ingredient Draw S can be uneven. Even when Crustle gathers plenty of one ingredient, you may still run short of another.

For example, while preparing Avocado Gratin, I sometimes collected more Avocados than I needed but struggled to maintain my Pure Oil supply.

Fortunately, I had a Mawile specialized in gathering Oil, which allowed me to continue preparing the recipe.

Without that backup supplier, maintaining the same cooking schedule would have been much more difficult.

This is why I believe Crustle should be evaluated alongside the rest of your ingredient team rather than purely on its individual performance.

Consider the Main Skill Seed Investment

Crustle can become significantly more effective as you increase its main skill level.

However, Main Skill Seeds are limited resources, and there may be other Skills specialists you want to prioritize.

When Amber Canyon first became available, Crustle was an especially attractive option for players preparing Overgrow Avocado Gratin.

It remains powerful, but future recipes and new ingredient farmers may change how valuable this specialized role is.

For that reason, I place Dwebble in the “Depends on Your Team” category.

If you regularly prepare Avocado Gratin and have reliable Pokémon to cover any ingredient shortages, Crustle can be an excellent investment.

Chimchar | Infernape Has a Powerful Berry Burst Skill

Infernape, the final evolution of Chimchar, is a Fighting-type Skills specialist with Berry Burst.

With a short base helping time of 2,400 seconds, it can generate Strength through regular helping while also collecting large quantities of Berries through its main skill.

Blaziken is another powerful Fighting-type Pokémon, but Infernape offers a different approach through Berry Burst.

I Prioritize Skill Trigger M and Berry Finding S

When evaluating Chimchar, I value both Skill Trigger M and Berry Finding S.

Berry Burst collects Berries from Infernape itself as well as the types gathered by other Pokémon on your team. Improving its own Berry production can therefore be particularly useful.

Helping Bonus, Helping Speed bonuses, and a main skill chance-increasing nature are also desirable.

However, obtaining an individual with all these advantages isn’t easy.

Consider Whether You Want to Invest Main Skill Seeds

Chimchar evolves twice, which increases its main skill level without requiring Main Skill Seeds.

Nevertheless, additional Main Skill Seeds are necessary to reach the maximum skill level.

If you’ve already raised a strong Sceptile or another Berry Burst specialist, you may not need to prioritize Infernape immediately.

On the other hand, if you’re missing a strong Fighting-type Strength producer and find an excellent Chimchar with Skill Trigger M and Berry Finding S, it’s worth considering.

Foongus | A Good Option if You Need Tasty Mushrooms

Amoonguss, the evolution of Foongus, is a Poison-type Ingredients specialist that excels at gathering Tasty Mushrooms.

Other strong Mushroom farmers include Quagsire and Gengar. However, Amoonguss offers excellent production performance and is a worthwhile option if your team doesn’t yet have a reliable Mushroom supplier.

AAA Is My Recommended Ingredient Spread

I recommend an AAA Foongus focused entirely on Tasty Mushrooms.

When evaluating individuals, I would prioritize Ingredient Finder M, followed by Helping Speed bonuses or a nature that increases ingredient finding.

Amoonguss is especially valuable if you’re starting from scratch and haven’t already invested heavily in another Mushroom farmer.

However, if you have a strong Quagsire or Gengar that already gathers enough Mushrooms, I wouldn’t recommend raising Amoonguss simply to replace it.

Amoonguss is also a Poison-type Pokémon, giving it additional value when preparing for Amber Canyon or Expert research areas where team composition restrictions make type diversity important.

Ultimately, I recommend Foongus to players who need more Tasty Mushrooms or want a Poison-type ingredient supplier, rather than as a universal hunting priority.

For a detailed breakdown of ingredient spreads, performance comparisons, and selection criteria, see my Amoonguss selection and training guide.

Final Thoughts | Choose Pokémon Based on Your Team’s Needs

Bagon and Trapinch are my highest-priority hunting targets at Amber Canyon, but they require different approaches.

Salamence has exceptional long-term Berry production, making it worth searching for a strong individual before committing substantial training resources.

Flygon, on the other hand, fills an important ingredient role. If you don’t have a reliable Glossy Avocado farmer, raising a good AAX individual can be worthwhile even before finding your ideal AAA.

Other Pokémon can also become high priorities depending on your team. Happiny is valuable if you need Fancy Eggs, Tyrunt is an accessible Rock-type Berries specialist, and Foongus is worth considering if you lack a Mushroom supplier.

Rather than spending Biscuits on every generally strong Pokémon, focus on the roles your team still needs to fill and the resources required to develop each individual.
