Taupe Hollow is home to many Pokémon worth raising, including Cyndaquil, Larvitar, and several strong ingredient specialists.
It is also a great place to find Turtwig, which evolves into an excellent healer, and Trapinch, which can become a valuable source of Glossy Avocados. These Pokémon can strengthen your team well beyond Taupe Hollow.
In this guide, I’ll share my personal priorities for hunting Pokémon at Taupe Hollow. Rather than trying to catch everything, I recommend focusing on the roles and ingredients your current team is missing.
Best Pokémon to Hunt at Taupe Hollow
Here are my recommended hunting priorities for Taupe Hollow.
| Priority | Pokémon |
|---|---|
| High Priority | Turtwig, Paldean Wooper, Cyndaquil, Fuecoco, Mudkip, Tyrunt, Trapinch |
| Worth Hunting | Vulpix, Charmander, Chimchar, Geodude, Larvitar, Shuckle |
| Depends on Your Team | Gastly, Houndour, Cubone, Onix |
These rankings assume you do not already have a strong Pokémon fulfilling the same role.
For example, Turtwig is one of my top recommendations if you still need a main healer. However, if you already have an excellent Gardevoir, finding another healer may not be urgent.
The same applies to ingredient and Berries specialists. If your team already covers a particular role, you may get more value from spending your biscuits elsewhere.
High-Priority Pokémon to Hunt
These seven Pokémon are my top recommendations for hunting at Taupe Hollow.
Turtwig | A Top Priority If You Need a Main Healer
Turtwig evolves into Torterra, a Skills specialist with the main skill Energy for Everyone S.
Torterra has excellent skill activation potential, with expected activation frequency only slightly behind Gardevoir. If you do not already have a reliable healer, I consider Turtwig one of the best Pokémon to hunt at Taupe Hollow.
Another major advantage is its ingredient selection.
Torterra can gather Tasty Mushrooms from its first ingredient slot and Soft Potatoes from its second. Both ingredients can be difficult to maintain in sufficient quantities for certain recipes.
Since a healer typically stays on your team for long periods, having one that also contributes useful ingredients is particularly appealing. Ingredient gathering is not Torterra’s primary role, but this additional contribution makes it more versatile.
When choosing a Turtwig to raise, I would prioritize Skill Trigger M. Helping Bonus, Helping Speed, and Skill Level Up M are also valuable.
Helping Bonus is especially attractive because a healer often remains on the team throughout the day, allowing the entire team to benefit from faster helping.
If you already have a strong healer, there is no need to rush into replacing it. But for players still looking for their first dependable healer, Turtwig is an excellent choice.
For more information, see my Skills Specialist Selection Guide.
Paldean Wooper | An Accessible and Excellent Cacao Specialist
Paldean Wooper is an Ingredients specialist that gathers Soothing Cacao from its first ingredient slot.
Its evolution, Clodsire, has strong ingredient-gathering performance, making it a great option for players who need a reliable source of Cacao.
One of its biggest advantages is its low friendship requirement of just 5 points.
Other Cacao specialists, such as Absol, require 16 friendship points, making repeated catches expensive. Paldean Wooper is much easier to hunt for good ingredient combinations and sub skills.
I have personally raised Clodsire to Lv.60, and I am very satisfied with its Cacao production.
My preferred ingredient spread is AAA, focusing entirely on Cacao. Once the ingredient spread is right, I look for Ingredient Finder M and Helping Speed bonuses.
However, there is one important consideration: Paldean Wooper shares candy with regular Wooper.
Regular Wooper evolves into Quagsire, another excellent Ingredients specialist that gathers Tasty Mushrooms. I have also raised Quagsire to Lv.60, and both Pokémon have performed very well.
Since they compete for the same candy, raising both simultaneously can be expensive.
If you need Cacao, prioritize Paldean Wooper. If you need Mushrooms, regular Wooper may be the better investment. Both are worth raising, but I would start with whichever ingredient your team needs most.
Cyndaquil | An Excellent Fire-Type Berries Specialist
Cyndaquil evolves into Typhlosion, a Fire-type Berries specialist with excellent Strength production.
Typhlosion is useful at Taupe Hollow and can also perform well in Expert areas where Fire-type Pokémon receive favorable bonuses.
For selection, Berry Finding S is my highest priority. Helping Bonus and Helping Speed increases make a strong Cyndaquil even better.
Another Fire-type Berries specialist, Ninetales, is also available.
While Ninetales is certainly capable, Typhlosion generally offers better raw Berry Strength production.
If I were starting from scratch, I would prioritize Cyndaquil. However, players who already have a strong Ninetales can afford to be more selective.
For more details about this important sub skill, see my Berry Finding S Guide.
Fuecoco | One of the Best Pokémon for Farming Apples
Fuecoco is an Ingredients specialist that gathers Fancy Apples from its first ingredient slot.
Its final evolution, Skeledirge, has excellent ingredient-gathering performance and is especially valuable for recipes that require large quantities of Apples.
If you do not already have a reliable Apple specialist, Fuecoco is well worth hunting.
My preferred ingredient spread is AAA, allowing Skeledirge to continue focusing on Apples through Lv.60.
Ingredient Finder M and Helping Speed bonuses are particularly desirable, improving its already strong ingredient production.
If Apples frequently prevent you from preparing the dishes you want, securing a strong Skeledirge can make meal preparation much easier.
I have also covered Fuecoco in my Cyan Beach guide. The same general evaluation applies at Taupe Hollow.
Mudkip | A Powerful Ground-Type Berries Specialist
Mudkip evolves into Swampert, a Ground-type Berries specialist with the powerful main skill Berry Burst.
Swampert combines strong Berry production with additional Strength from its main skill. This makes it an attractive option for Ground-type teams, including Expert areas where Ground-type Pokémon are favored.
Marowak is another Ground-type Berries specialist, but if I were choosing which one to hunt today, I would prioritize Mudkip.
For sub skills, Berry Finding S comes first. Helping Bonus, Helping Speed, and Skill Trigger M are also useful.
This does not mean Marowak is a poor choice.
I have raised Marowak myself and sometimes use it alongside Swampert. Strong Pokémon with similar roles can still work well together, especially when their type is favored.
Mudkip is therefore a great choice both for players building their first Ground-type team and for those looking to increase their overall Strength production.
Tyrunt | An Accessible Rock-Type Berries Specialist
Tyrunt evolves into Tyrantrum, a Rock-type Berries specialist.
Onix can fill a similar role, but it requires 16 friendship points, making it difficult to catch repeatedly while searching for Berry Finding S.
Tyrunt only requires 5 friendship points, which is a major advantage for long-term hunting.
Tyrantrum also has the main skill Cooking Power-Up S. Although it is not a Skills specialist and should not be expected to activate frequently, occasionally expanding your cooking pot is a useful bonus.
When selecting Tyrunt, I would prioritize Berry Finding S, followed by Helping Bonus and Helping Speed bonuses.
If you need a strong Rock-type Berries specialist, Tyrunt is generally where I would start.
Trapinch | A Great Choice for Glossy Avocados
Trapinch is an Ingredients specialist that gathers Glossy Avocados from its first ingredient slot.
Its final evolution, Flygon, can gather large quantities of Avocados, making it a valuable Pokémon for high-Strength recipes that use this ingredient.
My preferred spread is AAA, focusing entirely on Glossy Avocados through Lv.60.
Having a dedicated Avocado specialist makes it much easier to prepare recipes that require large quantities of this ingredient.
However, Trapinch can also gather Fiery Herbs from its second ingredient slot, making ABB another worthwhile option.
Dragonite and Gengar are competing Herb specialists, but if you do not already have a strong Herb farmer, an ABB Flygon may fit your team well.
I would generally prioritize AAA for Avocados, while considering ABB if Herbs are a more pressing need.
As with other Ingredients specialists, choose your preferred ingredient spread first, then evaluate Ingredient Finder M and Helping Speed bonuses.
Pokémon Worth Hunting When Possible
These six Pokémon can be very useful, but their priority depends more heavily on your existing team, competing Pokémon, and available resources.
Vulpix | A Strong Alternative to Typhlosion
Vulpix evolves into Ninetales, a Fire-type Berries specialist.
Although its raw Berry Strength production is somewhat lower than Typhlosion’s, Ninetales has the main skill Energizing Cheer S, which can restore Energy to a teammate.
This gives Ninetales an additional support benefit. However, because it is a Berries specialist, I would treat skill activations as a welcome bonus rather than relying on it as a healer.
Another consideration is that regular Vulpix shares candy with Alolan Vulpix.
Alolan Ninetales is an excellent Ice-type Berries specialist, so players interested in raising both forms may find themselves short on candy.
For Fire-type Berry production, I would generally prioritize Cyndaquil. Still, a strong Vulpix with Berry Finding S is absolutely worth raising.
I also discuss Alolan Vulpix in my Snowdrop Tundra Hunting Guide.
Charmander | A Useful Sausage or Ginger Specialist
Charmander is an Ingredients specialist that can gather Bean Sausages from its first ingredient slot and Warming Ginger from its second.
Its final evolution, Charizard, can fulfill either role depending on its ingredient spread.
Tyranitar is a powerful competitor for Ginger production, but raising one requires a significant investment of time and resources.
If you need Ginger sooner, Charizard can be a practical alternative.
An AAA Charizard is also a good option for Bean Sausages.
In my own team, Aggron already provides enough Sausages, while Tyranitar handles Ginger. I have a Charmander that I could raise, but I have not invested in it because those ingredient needs are already covered.
That is why I place Charmander in this category rather than among my highest priorities.
It is a capable Ingredients specialist, but whether you need one depends on your current team. Prioritize the ingredient spread you want, then look for Ingredient Finder M and Helping Speed bonuses.
Chimchar | Powerful Berry Burst, but Requires Investment
Chimchar evolves into Infernape, a Fighting-type Skills specialist with the main skill Berry Burst.
Berry Burst is an extremely powerful way to generate Strength, making Infernape a strong option for Fighting-type teams.
However, getting the most out of Infernape requires Main Skill Seeds.
Even after evolving Chimchar all the way into Infernape, you may need up to three Main Skill Seeds to reach the maximum skill level.
Because Main Skill Seeds are valuable resources, I would be selective about which Chimchar to raise.
For sub skills, I particularly like the combination of Berry Finding S and Skill Trigger M.
Berry Finding S improves its own Berry production and the value it can gain from Berry Burst, while Skill Trigger M increases the opportunities to activate its main skill.
Finding both on the same Pokémon is difficult, but the result can be a very powerful Strength specialist.
Infernape has excellent potential. Before investing, I would compare it with other Skills specialists that might need those same Main Skill Seeds.
Geodude | A Good Choice for Bean Sausages
Geodude is an Ingredients specialist that gathers Bean Sausages from its first ingredient slot.
Its final evolution, Golem, has a high ingredient-finding rate and can serve as a reliable Sausage specialist.
Charizard and Aggron are competing options, so your existing ingredient team should determine how much priority Geodude receives.
Evolving Graveler into Golem requires a Linking Cord, but this item can also be obtained through Social Research friendship rewards.
That means you may be able to get one without spending Sleep Points, making the evolution requirement relatively manageable.
If you need more Bean Sausages, Geodude is worth considering. As always, I would choose the desired ingredient spread before evaluating Ingredient Finder M and Helping Speed.
Larvitar | Difficult to Raise, but Extremely Powerful
Larvitar is an Ingredients specialist that gathers Warming Ginger from its first ingredient slot and Greengrass Soybeans from its second.
Its final evolution, Tyranitar, is an exceptionally strong ingredient gatherer, capable of providing large quantities of either ingredient.
The biggest drawback is its demanding training process.
Larvitar requires a considerable amount of EXP and candy before reaching Tyranitar. For that reason, I would be careful when choosing which individual Pokémon deserves the investment.
Both AAA for Ginger and ABB for Soybeans are excellent options.
Which one is better depends on the recipes you regularly prepare and the ingredient specialists you already own.
After selecting the ingredient spread, I would look for Ingredient Finder M and Helping Speed bonuses.
If you urgently need Ginger, raising Charizard first may be more practical than waiting for Tyranitar.
Tyranitar is powerful enough to justify its training cost, but finding a good Larvitar does not mean you have to start raising it immediately.
Shuckle | Unique Value From Stored Berry Juice
Shuckle is a Skills specialist with the main skill Berry Juice (Energy for Everyone S).
Besides restoring Energy to your team, its main skill sometimes provides an additional item called Berry Juice.
Each Berry Juice restores 20 Energy to one helper Pokémon, and you can store up to five in your bag.
This creates an interesting option for event preparation.
For example, you can use Shuckle during the week before an important event to stock up on Berry Juice. During the event itself, those stored items can help maintain a particular Pokémon’s Energy.
Another advantage is that the chance of receiving Berry Juice does not depend on the main skill level.
If your main goal is simply to collect Berry Juice, you do not need to invest Main Skill Seeds.
Shuckle requires 16 friendship points, making repeated hunting expensive. However, you do not necessarily need an ideal individual for the item-storage role.
A strong Shuckle with Skill Trigger M can also work as a main healer.
For a more detailed explanation, see my Cyan Beach Pokémon Hunting Guide.
Pokémon That Depend on Your Team and Preferences
These four Pokémon are still capable of performing well, but I would generally give them lower hunting priority because of competing options or higher catching costs.
Gastly | Still Worth Raising If You Find a Strong One
Gastly evolves into Gengar, an Ingredients specialist that can gather Fiery Herbs and Tasty Mushrooms.
However, several strong alternatives are now available, including Dragonite for Herbs and Quagsire or Amoonguss for Mushrooms.
This makes Gastly less urgent to hunt than it once was.
Gengar can still be useful for recipes such as Leaping Curry Udon, which requires both Herbs and Mushrooms.
Gastly candy may also be easier to collect during Halloween events, providing additional opportunities to train a good individual.
Rather than repeatedly catching Gastly in search of a perfect one, I would consider raising it if I happened to find an excellent individual.
For more details, see my Old Gold Power Plant Pokémon Hunting Guide.
Houndour | A Budget-Friendly Dark-Type Berries Specialist
Houndour evolves into Houndoom, a Dark-type Berries specialist.
Weavile is another strong Dark-type option, and I generally prefer it when focusing on raw Berry production.
However, Sneasel requires significantly more friendship points than Houndour, making Weavile much harder to hunt for.
Houndour only requires 5 friendship points, which makes finding a strong individual more accessible.
If you do not yet have a Dark-type Berries specialist, a Houndour with Berry Finding S and Helping Bonus can be a good investment.
For more information about Weavile, see my Snowdrop Tundra Hunting Guide.
Cubone | Marowak Is Still a Capable Choice
Cubone evolves into Marowak, a Ground-type Berries specialist.
Although I now prioritize Swampert, Marowak can still produce good Strength with Berry Finding S and Helping Bonus.
Its main skill, Charge Strength S, is also a useful addition.
I have raised Marowak myself and sometimes use it alongside Swampert. There is no reason to abandon a strong Marowak just because another Ground-type option has become available.
If you are starting from scratch, I would hunt Mudkip first. But if you already have an excellent Cubone, raising it is still a reasonable choice.
Onix | Steelix Is Powerful, but Hunting Is Expensive
Onix is a Rock-type Berries specialist that evolves into Steelix, a Steel-type Berries specialist.
Steelix has excellent Berry production and can become a powerful long-term team member.
You can also keep Onix unevolved and use the Helping Speed bonuses from the Good-Night Ribbon to improve its performance as a Rock-type specialist.
The biggest problem is its friendship requirement of 16 points.
Today, players looking for a Rock-type Berries specialist can hunt Tyrunt, while those who need a Steel-type Berries specialist can choose Piplup and eventually raise Empoleon.
Both are easier to hunt, since their first-stage forms require only 5 friendship points.
That does not make Steelix weak. A particularly strong Onix is still worth raising, and the Good-Night Ribbon can make it even more useful.
However, if you are starting a new hunt, I would generally prioritize Tyrunt or Piplup before spending large numbers of biscuits on Onix.
Final Thoughts | Hunt for the Roles Your Team Is Missing
Taupe Hollow offers excellent Pokémon for healing, gathering ingredients, and producing Berry Strength.
If you need a main healer, Turtwig is one of the best choices. For ingredients, Paldean Wooper is great for Cacao, Fuecoco for Apples, and Trapinch for Avocados.
For Berry production, I particularly recommend Cyndaquil, Mudkip, and Tyrunt.
Other Pokémon, such as Larvitar and Chimchar, can become extremely powerful but require more careful investment decisions.
You do not need to hunt every Pokémon at Taupe Hollow. Focus on filling the gaps in your current team and spend your biscuits on Pokémon that you expect to use for a long time.
